Final destination is a sound art project on my everyday life. The video is me traveling around my college campus before I meet my friends. I titled it final destination because every day my favorite moments are when I am with my friends. They are the most important part of my day. For the sound I recorded the conversations we had one Friday in the UMC (university memorial center) on our college campus. We all meet there every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on those days most of us spend hours sitting there talking.
I played the sound over the video of me making my way around campus because I tend to think about my friends at these times. I think about what we will do on the weekend and the silly things that we said the other day. The most amazing thing to me is that I didn’t know most of the friends that are in this project before the fall semester. Yet they are a big part of my everyday life now, which is a drastic change from how I spent my time last year. Without them my every day and this project could have turned out very different.
The picture that I selected for this piece is not from the video but from the first of many big outings my friends and I went on. When I look at this picture I see friends that will be part of my life for a long time. I always hope that my final destination is my friends and family.
