“The Journey”

I am currently a senior at CU and my major is studio arts with emphasis in painting and drawing. This semester I am taking 18 credit hours and I will also be a first generation graduate in May.  Drawing has been a part of my life since my childhood.  Before I enrolled in college, it was just a hobby for me.  My first two years at CU I was an integrative physiology major, but I soon learned that art was my passion and it was my only escape from reality. Since I have become an art major, I began to realize that I needed to focus more on what message I want my viewers to see in my work.  Being an African American in a predominantly white society, I decided that my art would be the voice for my culture.  This video is a clip of a project I am working on about equality within the justice system among the Black community. The person on the projector is Radio Raheem from the movie ‘Do The Right Thing’ and his character in the movie represented the fate of many young African Americans today.
