#Mylife is a comment on my own and my generation’s dependence on technology and social media. Everyday, thousands of people-myself included- upload pictures, create statuses, and share feelings about the seemingly mundane activities of daily living. We “instagram” our food, use twitter to “tweet” about where we’re going, and “tag” friends in our status updates on Facebook, leaving a digital imprint of virtually every activity, thought, and feeling we experience day to day. My piece seeks to both emphasis and critique this fact of modern daily life.
For this video, I began by recording a full day of my life with a GoPro. While reviewing this footage, I noticed how much of my time was spent checking Facebook and using technology in other ways, and I decided to emphasis this. I spent another day being very conscious of how much time I spent using technology. Every time I made a status update or took a picture for instagram, I “screenshotted” the image and layered it over the sounds of typing or ordering coffee. I used iMovie to put everything together, and then exported it using QuickTime.
