JACQUELINE AGUILAR

JACQUELINE AGUILAR
DENVER PARK
2013
3:35

For this piece I used a GoPro to record my experience at the local skate park. I worked with my friend John Altamirano on iMovie to edit the film. I used raw footage from a random night of many. None of the footage was staged but rather spontaneous. I decided to pull out my camera on a very cold night at the park that explains the van scene.

The people that are in my video are people I see at the skate park. It combines the individual with public space and people. I try to skate everyday but to be honest I don’t have significant contact with the features until now that I recorded our experience I realized their unique talents. This piece speaks of my reality. It may not be innocent and joyful but it is reality. It is not heightened or glamorous but instead represents the life I live. It is a choice and part of my identity. I realized that the people from the skate park come from different backgrounds and may going to different places but this is a recording of a moment in our life while we are together.
Materials: GoPro, iMovie, skateboarders
